Ponderay Sears not affected by recent news

October 17, 2018
Dan Lister, owner of the Sears store in Ponderay, posted a letter to all who might think that news of Sears' bankruptcy filing means that his family-owned Sears outlet is affected. It's not.

But he fears the news will have a negative impact on the work he and his wife and employees have achieved over the last 23 years that they've operated their independent Sears store.

Here is his letter in its entirety.

"To all our friends, families and present and past customers. I am reaching out today to ask a favor. 23 years ago this month we decided to move to Sandpoint and open our Sears store and during that time we have received amazing support from this community.

"Can you please share, repost or talk with anyone you know about this post in that Sears Holding Company decided today to file for bankruptcy. However they are a different company than our Sears Appliance & Hardware store.

"We separated from Sears holdings back in 2012 and operate as Sears Hometown & Outlet Inc., and as such are listed on NASDAQ: SHOS.

"Our concern is that because we represent this iconic brand, those who do not follow Sears on a daily basis will have the impression that we are associated with or included in SHC's filing, which we are not. Never the less, if we don't let everyone know, this recent news could have an impact on our business until everyone realizes how we are different. We can only accomplish this with your help.

"More than ever, if you know someone in need of a new appliance, snow thrower, mattress, tool or hardware item, please tell them to come check us out. We have loved being a part of the local business community and look forward to many more years of serving our customer, families and friends.

Dan & Melanie Lister"
