Sandpoint man killed in collision with tree

A Sandpoint man died early this morning in a single vehicle crash near Dover. According to the Idaho State Police, David A. Darling, 67, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Darling was driving a white 2001 Toyota Highlander east on Syringa Heights Road off Highway 2 at about 3:44 a.m. January 4 when he lost control of the vehicle, went off the road and hit a tree.

He was not wearing a seatbelt.

UPDATE: The Bonner County Coroner's Office has determined that Mr. Darling died from a medical emergency, not injuries sustained in this crash.
