Bonners Ferry woman dies in Spokane River

A Bonners Ferry woman died Monday after driving her car into the Spokane River near Templin's Resort in Post Falls. Valerie Sandaker, 54, was pronounced dead at Kootenai Health after divers pulled her from the car.

According to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, Sandaker drove through a person's yard and into the river at about 8 a.m. January 7. The car, a black 2012 Volkswagen Touareg, came to rest on the driver's side in about 20-feet of water.

She was taken to Kootenai Health in critical condition where she then was pronounced dead.
