Five area couples, most retired, the rest getting close to that milestone, will be traveling on the Hearts & Hands for Thailand mission to work on building projects with two hill tribes in March, but there's a lot of work to be done before they leave, and that work starts this Saturday for the Thailand Ten!

Pastors Bill and Tammy Henshaw, BridgeWay Assembly of God, Bonners Ferry, Peggy and Jim Mathiason, Kalispell, and Bud and Tamie Patzer, Marianne and Roy Hale and Kathryn and Larry Leavitt, all of Boundary County, are all working towards the humanitarian trip.

They are representatives of two organizations, Global Gateway, Richland, Washington, a volunteer team of professional men and women who send medical teams and care for the sick, build homes for orphaned children, teach agricultural skills, run literacy programs, drill water wells, develop clean water systems and train leaders for Christ, and Bridgeway Assembly of God Church, Bonners Ferry, teaming up for an opportunity to help make life better around the world.

They are hosting a series of fundraisers to help make their mission possible, beginning with a Hearts & Hands for Thailand Bowl-a-Thon from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, January 12, at AJ’s Lanes, 6696 Main Street, Bonners Ferry. To help, you can sponsor someone with dollars per game or you can bowl. There'll be a silent auction, a bake sale and you can get raffle tickets for drawings to be held for a K22 Smith & Wesson Masterpiece, a Remington 700 Winchester Magnum and a homemade quilt!

The Hearts & Hands for Thailand Free Concert takes place from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, January 18, at BridgeWay Assembly of God, 66027 Highway 2, Bonners Ferry. “Reb & The Cowboy,” also known as Rebecca and Thad Huseby, “The Cowboy Church Band” and “Northern Exposure with Grace” will all perform to help raise a free will offering for the trip.

At 5 p.m. Sunday, January 27, The Hearts & Hands for Thailand Talent Show & Auction takes place at BridgeWay Assembly of God, and talented folks are all welcome! To sign up, call Pastor Henshaw at (208) 267-3558. An auction and pie sale will be featured at intermissions.

The fundraising effort wraps up with the Hearts & Hands for Thailand Rummage Sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, February 8-9, at the Homestead Great Room, 32 David Thompson Drive, Bonners Ferry.

Items for sale (no clothes, please) are needed. To donate, call Pastor Bill Henshaw, (208) 267-3558. Setup starts at noon Thursday, February 7.

A "Thailand" account has been established at Mountain West Bank and donations can be made at any bank branch.

To learn more, call Tamie at (208) 610-6364.
