Mary Ann Thompson
Mary Ann Thompson, 68, Lewiston, lost her long battle with cancer on Friday, November 9, 2018. Per mom’s request, she was cremated and there will be no service. There will be a private family gathering at a later date.

Mom was born August 18, 1950, to Mel and Merrie Richards in Bonners Ferry. She was the second born of seven children.

The family moved in 1952 to Pierce, Idaho, where she spent her entire childhood and early adulthood. She was among the last graduating class of the old Pierce High School in 1969.

In 1969, she married Terry Thompson in Pierce. They welcomed their first child, a son, Russell Blaine Thompson, in 1969. Then in 1974 they welcomed a daughter, Brandie Lynn Thompson (McCorkle). The marriage later ended in divorce.

In her early years she worked for the Forest Service planting trees next to her mother, sisters and really good friends. In 1980, Terry and Mary Ann moved to Lewiston, where she spent the rest of her life.

Our mother was a very devoted, loving and supporting mother, grandmother and friend. She always worked extremely hard for her family, she always put them first. She absolutely adored her three granddaughters; Amanda, Kylie and Katelynn.

For the last 15 years, she worked at Avalon Progressive Care in Clarkston as a certified nursing assistant and supervisor alongside her best friend, Carol Gallas. Our mother was a caregiver to many at work and outside of work.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father and her sister, Dione Martin.

Mom enjoyed riding with Steve on their Harley, riding four-wheelers and pretty much anything outdoors. But she got the most enjoyment spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Mary Ann is survived by her son, Russell Blaine Thompson (Susie), Lewiston, daughter Brandie Lynn Thompson (McCorkle and significant other Josh Anderson), also of Lewiston, and granddaughters Amanda Merrie Thompson, Spokane, Kylie Ann Ongstad, Portland, Oregon, and Katelynn Marie McCorkle, Lewiston. She also is survived by her brother, Doug Richards, New Plymouth, Idaho, sisters Sue Clark, St. Maries, Charolette Maki, Pierce, Linda Watkins, New Plymouth, and Frances Jeter, Pierce; her partner and best friend for the last 18 years, Steve Galles, too many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins to list, and her two best friends, Vicki Norton and Carol Galles.

God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered, “Come with Me.” With tearful eyes we watched you slowly fade away. Although we loved you dearly, we would not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, your hard-working hands put to rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.
