Badger swimmer Julia Cummings, a junior who competed as a Badger with the Sandpoint High School swim team, left this morning for Boise after qualifying for a berth at state.

Julia is ranked fourth in the Idaho State 4A standings in the girls 50 yard freestyle, with a time of 25.84, less than a second off leader Kaitlyn Shelley, a Coeur d'Alene junior, with 25.14.

Julia also qualified as fourth seed in the girls 100 yard backstroke, with a season best time of 1:04.73, again just a shave away from junior Anika Rubocki, Bishop Kelly, Boise, who leads the pack with 59.23.

Last year, Julia brought home Bonners Ferry High School's first and so far only Idaho state swimming title, winning the individual 1A-3A title in the 100 back with a time of 1:04.49.

The 2018 Idaho High School Swimming State Championships take place Friday and Saturday at West YMCA, Boise.
