Lady Badgers win season openers

November 10, 2018
Badger Holly Ansley was the leading scorer of the night as the visiting St. Maries fell in the girl's season basketball opener tonight, with the Badger varsity winning 55-42 and the JV taking a 33-30 victory.

Ansley shot 30 of the Badger varsity's points, the only Badger to hit double digits. She also reeled in 10 rebounds.

Lady 'Jack Casey Haeg put up 24 for St. Maries.

Baylee Blackmore and Jerzie Pluid both shot for nine points, Macie Liermann put up four, Emmaline Pinkerton hit two and Grace Villelli had one.

“Our 19 day gap before our next game will be much nicer having that first win," coach Travis Hinthorn said. "It’s great to be back on the court, seeing the girls battle. For most of these girls, it was their first varsity start, having to fill the shoes of last year’s strong senior class. There were definite nerves, and we need to keep working hard, but it’s always nice to get a win under your belt.”

In the JV game, it was even scoring that won the day, with Lexie Maas, Sadie Hill and Emmaline Pinkerton each putting up seven poiints, Sierra Hill putting in six, and Paige Koberstein shooting five points. Sierra Petesch added one to round out the Badger scoring.

The Badgers will next face Wallace at home on Thursday, November 29, with JV action beginning at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity taking the floor at 6:30 p.m. The Lady Badger will host the Cusick, Washington, Panthers on Saturday, December 1, with the JV squad playing at 2 p.m., varsity at 5 p.m.
