Coach Rice likes what he saw in Cusick match

December 3, 2018
The Badger boys basketball team came off a tough home loss against the Wallace Miners November 27 to play an intense game against Cusick, Washington, Saturday night that was a nail biter from start to finish, and Coach Andy Rice saw a lot in his team that he's sure will bode well for the season ahead.

"I thought we got a good win against Cusick, they are a good team that I think people over look because they are a smaller school," Rice said of the 70-67 victory. "They can score in bunches and extremely quick. We got down in the first half, got in foul trouble, impatient on offense and made a lot of defensive mistakes."

It's what he saw in how the team buckled down, adjusted the pace and didn't show any quit in the second half until the final buzzer, he said, that shows the true heart of the team.

"I thought our guys responded great in the second half by starting the third quarter on a 7-0 run and going on to take the lead," he said. "We played smarter in the second half and got the win. Seth Batetman led us in scoring and really stepped up after our first game. Dylan Hittle did a better job of facilitating our offense and keeping everyone on track in our defensive schemes, especially in the second half. Ty Bateman had some big shots when we needed them, especially towards the end of the game. I really liked how we played in the second half. If we can play like that all the time, I think we are going to be successful this year."

The Badgers basketball teams all travel to Riverside High School, Chattaroy, Washington, on Tuesday, December 4, with JV girls starting at 4 p.m., the JV boys playing at the middle school at 5:30 p.m., varsity girls at 5:45 p.m. and the varsity boys playing at at 7:30 p.m.

On Thursday, the Badgers are home against Kettle Falls, Washington, with the girls taking on the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. and the boys at 6 p.m., with the JV teams playing at the middle school and varsity teams at the high school.
