Badger boys give Coach Rice a nice birthday present

December 8, 2018
Seth Bateman puts up two of his game-high 25 points to give the Badgers a very satisfying win over the visiting Sandpoint Bulldogs, 64-46.
Both Badger Boys teams put ticks in the win column tonight in the ages old rivalry that happens once each year against the Sandpoint Bulldogs.

The JV game had a cliffhanger ending, with a 47-43 Bulldog lead with just 1:37 on the clock. The Badgers showed no quit, and brought it to a 49-all tie in the game's final six seconds, when Bulldog fouls sent two Badgers to the free throw line, the last a technical foul on Dylan Hines.

Both Badgers were right on the mark, hitting all four, and they closed the game ahead, 53-49.

The varsity squad came out fast, jumping out to a 24-6 first quarter lead, and kept the pressure on to go to the locker room ahead 36-16.

In the opening minutes of the third quarter, a hush fell over the Badger bench when Ty Bateman went down with an injury to his left leg. He stayed on the sideline and watched Sandpoint pull off a 15 point third quarter to the Badgers' six, but the Badgers, fired up and hitting on all cylinders, outshot the Bulldogs 22-15 in the final quarter to give Coach Andy Rice a happy 37th birthday present, a 64-46 win.

Seth Bateman led all scorers with 25 points, Dylan Hittle shot 18 and Ty Bateman 11. Matt Morgan hit three points, Caleb Petersen 2 and Chris Durette added 1.

Kobe Banks led the Bulldog effort with 15 points, Ryan Roos scored 10.

The win puts the Badgers at 3-2 on the season. The Bulldogs are still looking for a win.

The Badger boys are on the road Tuesday, December 11, traveling to Lakeland, with JV action starting at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity hitting the boards at 7 p.m. Lakeland is coming off a loss, falling 77-65 tonight to Lakeside, and they are 2-3 on the season.
